Fiscardo
Fiscardo is situated on the northern area of Kefalonia, very close to Ithaka and Lefkada. Around Fiscardo, dense forests reach down to small coves where white pebble beaches with crystal clear water are.Fiscardo retains the old architecture of another era, when the Venetians ruled Kefalonia, because it’s one of the places that was not affected much from the earthquake of 1953 that ruined most of the buildings in Kefalonia.Today it is known for its cosmopolitan and warm atmosphere. The picturesque harbour is surrounded by Venetian-style houses painted in pastel colours. At summer season the harbour is filled with small sailing boats to large yachts, a few feet from pavement restaurants and cafes specialising in traditional Greek cuisine. Nearby you can find ruins of a Palaeolithic settlement and plenty of Byzantine churches, and many other picturesque and interesting sites. The Natural and Environmental Museum lies above the waterfront and it is worth a visit.
