Drogarati Cave

The Drogarati Cave lies 3km from Sami, in the area of Haliotata. Situated 120m above sea level, the cave descends to a depth of 95 metres. The temperature is a steady 18 degrees Celsius. The cave is regarded as one of the finest in Greece, the only one with such a large 65mX45m chamber and about 20m in height. It has served as the venue for concerts by M.Farantouri and the soprano Irene Karayianni. Nature has created here a masterpiece of sculpture, in the form of the stalactites and stalagmites that have grown here over thousands of years. The cave is a rare geological phenomenon and is open to tourists all day every day, from morning to evening. Access to the cave is quite safe and it can be toured without any risk to the visitor; tours are supervised by friendly and experienced guides.
