Argostoli
Argostoli is the capital of Kefalonia and a safe harbour, which is situated at the gulf of Argostoli. It is the main merchandising center of the island that is built amphitheatrically up at the hill and the biggest town with approximately 10000 inhabitans. Argostoli offers many attractions for a visitor. At the center of the town you can walk at the pedestrians road –Lithostroto- which is the shopping area for souvenirs and local products. Also you can enjoy your coffee at cafes near the central square and at the coastal road. A walk at De Bosset’s stone arched Bridge and the Koutavos lagoon is worthwhile during the evening. You can visit the Folklore museum as well as the Botanical Garden, which is located close to the town. A few minutes away is the Agioi Theodori Lighthouse, the Italian War Memorial and Katavothres area which offers magnificent sunset views. At a very close distance you can visit the St George’s castle, which was the previous capital of Kefalonia during the Venetian occupation of the island.
